WORLD Radio - Kicker: An artificial cake

MARY REICHARD, HOST: Graduations are special occasions that deserve a special kind of celebration. So Marcy Flores ordered one from the local Walmart bakery.

But things got mixed up at the Pasadena, Texas, store and the order for a two-tier cake got lost.

So a manager told her to pick any other cake on display, free of charge. Here she is talking to 2KTEM radio:

FLORES: And they said they’d put a couple of graduation things on it and her picture.

But here’s what takes the cake: When the moment came to slice it, the knife didn’t glide through anything creamy and sweet.

Nope. It was stiff and bland. Probably tasted like styrofoam, too. Because inside the beautifully decorated cake was exactly that: styrofoam!

Apparently someone frosted an artificial cake intended only for display and boxed it up.

A manager apologized, gave her two gift cards, and finally, a real cake.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
