NICK EICHER, HOST: Soccer clubs across Ireland last week observed a moment of silence to honor of a player they’d heard had been killed in a traffic accident.
The newspaper posted the death of Fernando La Fuente. An upcoming game was postponed.
Except La Fuente wasn’t dead. He wasn’t even in a traffic accident.
Turns out an employee of the amateur team Ballybrack Football Club made the false report to get out of the game.
The team apologized for the “gross error of judgment” and fired the person who made the false report.
We’re just glad to report that La Fuente is alive and kicking.
It’s The World and Everything in It.
