Kicker: A priceless doorstop

MARY REICHARD, HOST: Imagine finding out a big rock you’ve used for decades as a door stop is actually worth $100,000!

That’s exactly what David Mazurek just found out.

The rock in question isn’t just any rock, it’s from outer space!

The 23-pound meteorite chunk came with a barn he bought in 1988. Mazurek said the farmer who sold him the property in Michigan told him it landed in his backyard in the 1930s.

After hearing news reports of meteorite pieces selling for thousands, he took his doorstop to Central Michigan University to have it examined.

And a geology professor told him it’s the most valuable specimen she’s ever held in her life.

Mazurek said he now plans to sell the space rock and replace it with something a little less expensive.
