Kicker: A home for woodchucks

MEGAN BASHAM, HOST: House Speaker Paul Ryan leaves Washington and returns to private life next year. But he’s going to need a new car.

Ryan left his Chevy Suburban at his mom’s house in Wisconsin when he went to D.C.

Every now and then she’d start it up and drive it around. But the last time she turned the key, it wouldn’t start. So Ryan had it towed to the repair shop where the problem became clear.  

RYAN: And so my car was eaten by animals, and it’s just dead. I had to call the insurance company. So I don’t have a car.

A family of woodchucks had made their home inside the engine compartment and chewed up all the wiring.

Suburbans are known as family vehicles, after all.
