WORLD Radio - Kicker: A fish with teeth

MEGAN BASHAM, HOST: Her friends might think it’s one big fish tale, but an 11-year-old has pictures to prove: she caught a creepy fish with human-like teeth in a lake in Oklahoma.

Kennedy Smith was fishing with her grandparents when something chomped down on the bait.

At first she was “really excited” to have caught the fish. But as her grandma pulled the fish from the water, it bit her! So she took a closer look and found a mouth full of teeth that looked eerily human.

Turns out the fish was a rare pacu. That’s a relative of the piranha, native to South America. This fish was about a pound, but this breed can reach up to 50 pounds.

A local game warden said most likely someone bought the fish as a pet and later released into the lake.

And as for that pacu bite, the grandmother said she suffered no ill-effects and was just fine.

But I think she might at least hesitate before saying, “I hope the fish are biting today!”

It’s The World and Everything in It.
