WORLD Radio - Kicker: A fish this big

NICK EICHER, HOST: Jeffrey Dill needed just three things to break a Virginia state fishing record: one, good timing; two, a cheap rod from Walmart; and, three, 15 minutes to reel in the monster on the other end of his line.

Dill dragged a 68-pound flathead catfish out of Lake Smith on May 26th. He told WAVY TV that when a friend used his net to help pull the fish onto the dock, the net snapped. But they eventually wrestled him out of the water.

DILL: I could barely hold him up. REPORTER: Have you named the catfish? DILL: Big Earle REPORTER: Big Earle DILL: Big Earle!

Dill took the fish to a bait and tackle shop in nearby Virginia Beach and waited for a game and wildlife biologist to inspect the catch.

Turned out “Big Earle” was big enough to beat the previous record of 66 pounds, set in 1994.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
