MARY REICHARD, HOST: A woman in Scotland noticed some swelling and drooping of her left eyelid over several months.
She finally went to the doctor who sent her to an ophthalmologist.
He found a small cyst that required surgery to remove. Inside the cyst he found a hard contact lens.
But the woman hadn’t worn hard contact lenses since she was a teenager! Meaning that the lens had been in her eye for nearly 30 years.
Best anyone can figure out, she’d been hit in the eye at age 14 by a shuttle while playing badminton. She’d just assumed the blow knocked out her contact lens.
The contact caused her little trouble over all those years.
But the moral of the story is this: if you ever think a contact may be stuck in your eye, get it checked out.
