In the wake of the April 29 stabbing of two Jewish men in Golders Green, a Jewish suburb in north London, the British security service MI5 raised the terrorist threat level from “substantial” to “severe.” A Somali immigrant, Essa Suleiman, has now been charged with attempted murder. The Metropolitan Police Force said he has had a record of mental issues and violent behavior and had been known to authorities. Nevertheless, he was freely roaming the streets in a Jewish neighborhood. The attack has been declared a terrorist incident.
On BBCQT a man asked Rachel Millward, deputy leader of the Green Party, where she thinks the racial hatred she mentioned is coming from. She at first appeared baffled and stumbled around obviously not wanting to state the obvious, namely, that it is coming from radical Islamists who have flooded into the country. Finally, however, she remembers her Marxist catechism, which she spouts mechanically.
Essentially, she claims that the Somali man decided to stab two Jews because of the high price of groceries. She clams that people really have it hard today trying to make ends meet. As a good Marxist, she reduces all crime to economic factors. She has no personal knowledge of Mr. Suleiman and no interest in what he might believe, but her catechism informs her that all crime has its roots in poverty caused by inequal wealth distribution, and she parrots it even though it is patently absurd in this case.
Unfortunately, however, after years of Marxist indoctrination in schools and universities many people are used to hearing this doctrine and to them it has a superficial plausibility. After all, don’t they wish the price of butter wasn’t so high? Most people are not going to go full conspiracy theory and blame a Zionist cabal for the high cost of living, but really can’t we understand why the poor man was feeling desperate?
Ironically, Marxist theory is used here to diagnose the cause of the current upsurge in hatred of Jews in the United Kingdom, but it is also used to demonize Israel. Just look at Palestine/Israel they say. Who is wealthier? Obviously, the Jews. Marxist theory says that inequality is always caused by the oppressor–oppressed dynamic. So, the Jews must be the oppressors and the Arabs must be victims. As the Marxist settler-colonial analysis is applied all the complex historical, religious, political, and other factors are ignored, which allows Marxist theory to produce its usual simplistic “good guy-bad guy” analysis in which Hamas becomes “resistance fighters” and the Jews become “Nazis.”
The rhetorical manipulation is breath-taking. First, Marxism is used to deflect attention away from radical Islam, which is the immediate and primary source of the Jew hate that led to the tragedy in Golders Green. Second, this problem (which has nothing to do with economics) is manipulated into support for the necessity of Marxist redistribution of wealth. Third, Marxism is used to demonize Israel and any Jews who support the Jewish state, whether they are in Israel or in the diaspora.
Thus, Marxism prevents society from correctly diagnosing the problem and taking positive steps to address it. Marxism is a growing threat to social peace and human rights in the West today.
Millward’s party is courting the Muslim vote in Britain, which in practice means courting the radical Imams who peddle Muslim Brotherhood ideology and whitewash terrorism. The reason Muslim constituencies vote as a block is because of the power held over the Muslim voters by “community leaders” who seek political power to deflect attention from their promotion of Jew hatred. Seats in parliament are now being held hostage to radical Jihadists.
If we really want to reduce the racial hatred toward Jews in our society, we need to attack two power centers: the many university departments that have been ideologically captured by Marxists and the Muslim Brotherhood preachers who dominate radical mosques. Many of the latter are recent immigrants and could be deported if the government was serious about reducing racial hatred in their country. But that would not be enough because the Marxists would just find another victim group. The power of Marxists to stifle free speech and silence their critics in universities must end decisively. The spell must be broken.
If we do nothing, the future is bleak. Take two minutes to listen to this chilling interview with a rabbi from Golders Green who heard about the stabbing while visiting Auschwitz with 40 teenagers from his community. His question at the end should stab our consciences.
