You could be forgiven for not understanding what is going on in Britain with this grooming gang scandal. Gangs of Pakistani Muslim men have, for decades, groomed, raped, and even tortured white schoolgirls as young as eleven, and the police, social workers, prosecutors, and other officials have looked the other way for fear of being called racist. And the rabidly pro-feminist, social justice loving, virtue-signaling government just voted not to have a national inquiry into all this. Why?

It makes no sense whatsoever.

It seems that something is desperately wrong at a very deep level. Sure, there are disturbed individuals in every age capable of doing horrific things to others. But this is different. It is systemic child abuse. There is something deeply unsettling, even unnatural, about the failure of adults to protect the young. Even atheists take for granted that the authorities will act with a modicum of Christian concern for the neighbor. How could the authorities look the other way? How could a whole society just shrug?

Our universities have been infiltrated by professors who teach that the West is uniquely evil and that white people are all guilty of exploitation, violence, and slavery. This has been going on for so long that the generation now running society has internalized the idea that “whiteness” is evil. Morality has been reduced to self-hatred. It is the Christian doctrine of sin without redemption.

This pathological self-hatred manifests itself today in changing attitudes toward children. A visitor from another planet who dropped in on contemporary society would be struck by the fact that our species seems to be ambivalent about reproducing itself. In fact, our society appears to be anti-child.

First, consider the effects of abortion on demand. According to the Pew Research Center, there were just under a million abortions in 2023 in the United States. About a quarter of the children we conceive are killed, which pushes our fertility rates below replacement level. In 2023, the birth rate was a historic low. It is not just America; the patterns are the same across the entire Western world and, because of the influence of the West on the rest of the world, also globally. This generation is on the verge of failing to reproduce itself as the global fertility rate is predicted to fall below replacement level by the middle of this century.

A society that will not protect children from abortion and transgenderism will not protect them from pedophiles or anything else.

Second, consider the impact of secular feminism. Contraception was widely accepted by Christians only in the 20th century. The invention and widespread adoption of oral contraceptives in the 1960s led to a sharp increase in the number of women working outside the home and the corresponding decrease in women making homemaking and motherhood their central focus (even among those who would prefer to do so). When this is coupled with a catastrophic rise in divorce rates it means that children are increasingly growing up in unstable home environments. In 2022 a total of 40% of American children were not living with both biological parents during their formative years. The bond between the generations is fraying.

Third, consider the sudden increase in transgender ideology in social media, schools, and various professions, including medicine and psychology. In the space of a decade the idea of sex change operations and hormone treatments for adolescents has been normalized even though it is obvious that children are incapable of giving consent to treatments that lead to unknown future health risks and almost certain sterility. How can one generation make the assumption that the next generation will be indifferent to the ability to procreate? It seems to indicate a great deal of ambiguity about the centrality of parenthood and family formation to human happiness.

Fourth, consider the increasingly obvious signs of the normalization of pedophilia all around us. The grooming gang scandal is not happening in a vacuum. The sexualization of children is everywhere. What started out as “sex education” in schools has descended into a push to normalize degeneracy via drag queen story hour. As children are desensitized to talk of sexual matters, they become more vulnerable to predators.

There is increasing evidence of pedophilia among the elites. Why on earth is the U.K. Labor government willing to take a massive hit in the polls in order to protect pedophiles?

A society that will not protect children from abortion and transgenderism will not protect them from pedophiles or anything else. Those with twisted sexual proclivities have always been there in the shadows. Buy today they are out and proud in the streets and in the classrooms. And the authorities protect them.

A culture that is anti-child is a culture committing suicide.
