Cultures may die and civilizations will vanish. A society that once was the envy of the world—due to its prosperity and unique achievements—can collapse if it doesn’t treasure its foundational principles and nurture the core values that produced its success and affluence. Societies can fall into a process of self-extinction when they allow poisonous enemies to cripple their core from within.
Some Western societies have major problems in this regard. Consider two in particular: the United States and Germany.
In the United States, the House passed a bill to deport undocumented immigrants convicted of sex crimes. The bill rightfully targeted sexual abusers, pedophiles, and rapists, ensuring they cannot stay in our land. While all Republicans and dozens of Democrats voted in favor of the bill, 158 Democrats opposed it, some claiming it might be read as demonizing immigrants or fearmongering. These Democrats reflect a group of American policymakers who have more sympathy for destructors of their own societies than for their own people, since deporting violent offenders puts priority on public safety. Once a society loathes what initially made it stand and thrive, its remaining days are few.
Germany is another important case in point. For the past decade or two, the prosperous Western nation opened her doors wide to millions of immigrants who don’t share her basic values or valued traditions. While Germany might have hoped for them to adopt German ways and cherish German principles, that isn’t what happened. Recently, a report came out that a gang of nine male immigrants repeatedly raped a 14-year-old German girl. The rapists weren’t of German heritage, and a majority of them immigrated from Muslim nations.
The way Germany dealt with the crime is horrific. All of them were officially convicted, but soon after the conviction, eight of the nine were spared jail time and returned into the society. When a German woman criticized their release publicly, she was sent to prison for a weekend for voicing “hateful remarks.” The Telegraph reports that the government investigated 140 people for making “harmful comments” towards the rapists. This horrific saga is a textbook case of how societies collapse.
These examples from the United States and Germany aren’t isolated. They reflect a reoccurring trend in many Western nations, where governments elevate and support immigrants over their own citizens. This trend often begins with progressive ideologies that paint other cultures as non-threatening and other people with fascination and idealism.
When societies lose sight of what made them unique and extraordinary in the first place, they begin their fast journey to destruction.
In that unjust and damaging paradigm, an immigrant would receive better treatment or unique incentives over those bestowed on a citizen.
But why do some Western societies fall into this paradigm?
Many are driven by a sense of guilt, due to perceived past generations’ wrongdoings, or by political correctness that avoids any reasonable assessment of people’s behavior or cultural traits. These Western societies operate under the false and erroneous assumption that all cultures are equal and good. In this paradigm, no one can criticize anything, especially aspects from a different culture or other people groups.
Many Arabic-Muslim nations expel Islamists and shut down Islamist organizations, such as the Muslim Brotherhood and its like, for obvious reasons. Western societies, however, open their arms and receive such vicious Islamist groups. This is a textbook for self-destruction.
It is not just boasting to claim the West is the best. However, within a paradigm of political correctness and self-loathing, very few Westerners can openly speak of Western exceptionalism. While millions want to immigrate to Western nations because of their exceptional governing systems, superior economic prowess, and brilliant political preeminence, no Westerner is encouraged to see that uniqueness and exceptionalism.
Citizens of the welcoming societies are forced not to believe their own eyes nor to trust their common sense and judgement. If some citizens dare to question any of these progressive trends, they face discipline or censure—or even jail. Additionally, many Westerners are forced to elevate the status and rights of immigrants, to avoid being labeled as bigots or racists.
This is how cultures die, particularly through embracing self-destructive dispositions and refusing to defend their uniqueness and distinctiveness. Once people elevate and support their avowed destructors over themselves, they will soon begin their eventful downfall. When nations are unwilling to defend their own citizens and children, the end is absolutely imminent.
Societal discernment must be recovered for the sake of the survival of our Western nations that are still, at least for now, the envy of other nations.
