A devastating tornado damaged hundreds of homes, tossed vehicles, left many homeless, and killed at least 19 people in the southeastern part of Kentucky late on the evening of May 16.
Meanwhile, St. Louis Mayor Cara Spencer said five people died, 38 were injured, and more than 5,000 homes were affected by a tornado that moved north and west of downtown. Although local, state, and federal officials are working to get the agency’s resources, it will likely take weeks before FEMA is on the ground.
