Protests that began last Friday escalated into violent riots after federal law enforcement started arresting illegal immigrants in Los Angeles. L.A. Mayor Bass contacted immigrant rights groups who called for emergency protests to demand the release of immigrants.

Over the next two days, rioters blocked metro train tracks and major roads, constructed barricades, attacked law enforcement, and set cars on fire in downtown Los Angeles. By Sunday, L.A. law enforcement began using rubber bullets, tear gas, and other less-lethal munitions to attempt to disperse rioters.

President Trump has deployed approximately 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to Los Angeles over the last four days.
