Teen’s Twitter record gets him free chicken nuggets for a year

Wendy’s is giving a Nevada teenager free chicken nuggets for a year for breaking Twitter’s retweet record. Carter Wilkerson tweeted Wendy’s in April: “Yo @Wendys how many retweets for a year of free nuggets?” When Wendy’s replied with “18 million,” Wilkerson sent out a call: “Help me please. A man needs his nuggs.” The 16-year-old had never had more than 10 retweets on a single tweet before. On Tuesday, his tweet broke the Guinness World Record with 3.47 million retweets, surpassing an Ellen DeGeneres selfie at the 2014 Academy Awards that had 3.43 million. Though shy of 18 million, Wendy’s awarded Wilkerson a year of free nuggets and also pledged $100,000 to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, a nonprofit Wilkerson supports.
