Price, Mnuchin headed for full Senate vote
Republicans on the Senate Finance Committee changed its rules this morning to block an effort by Democrats to indefinitely delay confirmation hearings for President Donald Trump’s nominees to head the Health and Human Services and Treasure departments. The committee normally requires the presence of at least one Democrat to hold a vote. Earlier this week, Democrats boycotted the committee’s meeting to prevent Republicans from being able to approve Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., and Steve Mnuchin. The nominations now head to the full Senate for final confirmation. Both are expected to win approval. Democrats said they wanted to ask more questions about the financial backgrounds of both men. Price has faced questions about his investments in medical companies. Critics accuse Mnuchin of using a fraud-like process to handle home foreclosures at a bank he once owned. During their hearings, Price and Mnuchin denied any wrongdoing.
