NYC bombing suspect officially charged
Federal prosecutors have charged Ahmad Khan Rahami with planting bombs in New York and New Jersey. Rahami, who was arrested Monday after a manhunt and shootout with police, faces four counts, including use of a weapon of mass destruction. Thirty-one people were injured Saturday when one of the bombs exploded in Manhattan. Prosecutors said they found a journal in which Rahami praised other terrorists and wrote, “The sounds of the bombs will be heard in the streets. Gun shots to your police. Death To Your OPPRESSION.” Rahami is still in the hospital for gunshot wounds he received during the shootout. His father, Mohammad Rahami, reportedly contacted the FBI about his son in 2014 after he was arrested for stabbing a person in the leg and possessing a firearm. His son was not convicted of those charges.
