New York Mets sign Tim Tebow to minor league contract
Former pro and college football quarterback Tim Tebow’s quest to become a major league baseball player received a boost today with the New York Mets signing him to a minor league contract. The 29-year-old former Heisman Trophy winner will report to Port St. Lucie, Fla., and join the Mets’ fall instructional league team there. After training for three months at a baseball school in Arizona, Tebow put his baseball skills on display last week in a workout before major league scouts and reporters in Los Angeles, gaining interest from several teams, including the Atlanta Braves and the Colorado Rockies. The outspoken Christian athlete last played competitive baseball in high school 12 years ago before going on to star in football at the University of Florida and play in the NFL for the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets.
