EU leaders host U.K.’s Cameron for ‘last supper’

Brexit drama continues to roil British and European politics. U.K. Prime Minster David Cameron, who announced plans to step down after his country voted to leave the European Union, got an earful from his EU counterparts last night during his “last supper” with the group. European leaders want Britain to invoke Article 50 proceedings immediately, but Cameron won’t step down until the Conservative Party holds its fall meeting. And he doesn’t plan to take part in any EU pull-out negotiations. Britain’s neighbors warn the rebel country shouldn’t expect smooth sailing. They plan to make the divorce as difficult as possible to deter other EU members from following suit. Back in Britain, Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn has refused to step down, even after failing to survive a no-confidence vote from his party. Like Cameron, Corbyn strongly advocated for Britain to remain in the EU, prompting his colleagues to insist the party needs new leadership.
