Clinton, Trump trade comic jabs for charity

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump shared a stage one last time Thursday at the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner at the Waldorf Astoria New York hotel. For more than half a century, presidential nominees have shared a few laughs for a good cause, often poking fun at themselves at the charity dinner. But some felt Trump took things a bit too far. The audience repeatedly booed him for saying things such as, “Here [Clinton] is tonight in public pretending not to hate Catholics.” But he did get laughs when he kept things light, quipping, “Michelle Obama gives a speech and everyone loves it, it’s fantastic. My wife Melania gives the exact same speech … and people get on her case!” Funds from this year’s dinner will go to benefit charities for underprivileged children in New York.
