Clinton gets official nomination nod
Officially conceding defeat in the Democratic presidential primary, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., moved that Hillary Clinton be selected as the party’s nominee at the end of tonight’s floor vote at the convention in Philadelphia. The move was purely symbolic: Clinton had more than enough delegates to secure the nomination, and Sanders had already voiced his support for his former rival. Sanders supporters, many of whom say they are supporting Clinton grudgingly, gave him a standing ovation as he turned away from the microphone. He left the convention center after making the announcement, a show of support choreographed by his campaign and Clinton’s. Analysts hailed tonight’s selection as a historic moment. Clinton is the first woman ever nominated at the top of an American presidential ticket.
