The international adoption system is deeply broken. I am an adoptive mom, so I have always been very pro-adoption. But especially in the United States, there are few safeguards in place to protect children from being trafficked through adoption. Personally, I am happy that countries are tightening up their restrictions. Corruption is not rare in IA, it is far too common. We are seeing it happen firsthand in Tanzania, where we have lived for 12 years. I encourage anyone interested in IA to read "In Defense of the Fatherless" by Sara Brinton and Amanda Bennett. It is the first Christian adoption book that addresses the issue of ethics in international adoption. I also recently wrote a 7-part blog series on the topic of the dark side of international adoption: http://gilandamy.blogspot.com/2016/03/i-wish-it-wasnt-true-dark-side-of_7.html
