The fact that the SBC is even having to debate such things as gambling, pornography, and yes, women pastors, is alarming. Not just for the SBC, but for our culture in general. What will Christians be debating 5 years from now? Whether or not to issue a statement against sexual abuse of children?? š±
Judges 21:25 perfectly illustrates our own time. Lord, come quickly!

The Lord makes the rules for His Church, not us. I believe the proscription against women preaching, or holding authority over men in the Church, in 1 Timothy 2 is quite clear. You either believe Scripture is the genuinely inspired Word of God, or you donāt. If you want to pick out the parts you like and ignore the rest, you might as well admit you are worshipping a god (little g) of your own creation.
Iām willing to accept without further explanation any Scripture that cites women in leadership as special circumstance, not as general rules for us to prioritize over 2 Timothy 2. Do we look at all the men in the Old Testament with multiple wives and concubines, and take that as an example or instruction to follow? In the New Testament the Lord clearly regards men who have only one wife as spiritually superior to men with just one wife!
And itās presumptuous in the extreme for me to tell the Creator of the Universe that He must explain Himself to me beyond what is already given in His Word.

A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.
- 1 Tim 2:11-14

I am not saying I know the answer but if you are going to quote Scripture⦠How do you deal with Deborah who was a prophetess and military leader? Then Galatians 3:28 which can be interpreted as emphasizing equality and potential for leadership for all believers. Acts 2:1-1 describes the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on all believers, including men and women, potentially suggesting that gifts of leadership are not limited by gender. Miriam was a prophet and led a nation in worship (Exodus 15:20). Esther saved a nation through her braveryāa leader, indeedāand Huldah was a prophet in the time of King Josiah (2 Chronicles 34) Phoebe was mentioned by Paul in Romans 16:1 to be a servant or ādeaconessā who taught in the Cenchreae church. Junia was considered outstanding by Paul and was among the circle of the apostles (Romans 16:7). Chloe (1 Corinthians 1:11), Nympha (Colossians 4:15), and Apphia (Philemon 1:2) all led house churches. Tabitha led a benevolence ministry (Acts 9:36) and Philipās four daughters were all identified as prophets (Acts 21:8,9).
How do I deal with it? Iām going to quote more scripture and allow it to interpret itself, taken in context & using discernment.
Deborah @ OT judge doesnāt apply to SBC debates about female pastors in NT church. Out of context. Not related. Military leadership is not in mind.
Galatians 3:28 canNOT be interpreted to mean equality in leadership. Paul says nothing about leadership in this verse or this whole chapter bc the entire context is clearly about equality in Christ, by faith, like Abraham, ending [29] And if you are Christās, then you are Abrahamās offspring, heirs according to promise.
Plus, what Paul wrote @ 1TIM3 clarifies my quote of what he wrote @ 1TIM2 ⦠and he makes it as plain as day that church leaders are men. Women have no Biblical warrant to pastor a church Those who say otherwise stretch Bible verses to bend the rules according their felt needs⦠SBC included.
Same story for Esther, Phoebe & Co.

Why does the Apostle Paul give instructions for women to prophesy in the congregation in 1 Corinthians 11?
