You seem to imply that the attacks are one way--Sunni against Shiites. Am I just misreading that, or is it only the Sunnis that attack Shiites. If so, are the Sunnis behind all the terrorism against non-Muslim groups?

It seems at the very least odd that attacks would be waged against ‘the other side’ during a time of communal prayer. I would assume that for the most part that each side prays to the same god/allah using the same prayers with probably many of the same words and ideas. Yet they choose to destroy rather than ‘evangelize.’

I appreciate A.S. Ibrahim's thoughtful and understandable explanations of Islamic thought and theology. The above article was helpful since I have for a long time not understood the difference between Sunni and Shiite origins, theology, and motivations. It has become more clear to me that Islam and Christianity are quite different in many more ways other than just theology. This is something many people in the West just don't understand very well at all. Keep up the good writing! Thank you.
